Solitary Landscape

Solitary Landscape is a conceptual project that deals with the emotional and psychological effects of the 2020-? COVID-19 pandemic on people through merging them with the landscape to create a single “entity”.

In a stereotypical landscape photograph placing a person in the scene has been used by photographers as an element/device to bring scale & depth to a landscape photograph. The “subjects” are taken at a distance to emphasise their smallness against the larger world around us, how detached we are from each other in the pandemic reality. Photographing strangers, passer-by’s as they disappear into or emerge from the landscape, they are the “hidden” landscape within the land. Each exists in their own “world” apart from everyone else’s, detached in their own “solitary” mini realities. Each “mini reality” is full of its own feelings/emotions and interactions which is at the core of the project.
